Southern Cross Maritime×MORILDVR simulationA full-mission bridge simulator that travels in a case.
High-resolution virtual reality on a single laptop and headset. Train pilots, masters, bridge teams and tug crews at your port, on board or anywhere in the world, together in one live exercise. We come to you.
Simulator training without the simulator centre.
Conventional full-mission simulators mean fixed rooms, travel and limited bookings. Morild puts the same class of training into a headset, so your people can train more often, closer to home and at a fraction of the cost.
Southern Cross Maritime uses Morild simulation in its training, and can assist with port and scenario development, demonstrations and purchasing. We own and operate Morild units and bring them to your port, ship or office, drawing on a network of experienced master mariners and marine pilots.
Morild Ship & Bridge in use.
A full-mission bridge on one laptop and headset: the virtual bridge, live traffic, tugs and the instructor station working together in one scenario.

Voice-activated helmsman, linesmen and tugs.
Give orders by voice, exactly as you would on a real bridge. The virtual crew answers back and carries them out, with no instructor needed to drive them.
- Helmsman: helm orders, courses to steer and rate of turn, kept on standby or stood down
- Engines: every order from dead slow to full, ahead and astern, and stop
- Thrusters: bow and stern thrusters set to the power you call, to port or starboard
- Linesmen: forward and aft stations send, heave up, hold, slack and let go head, breast, spring and stern lines
- Tugs: made fast or let go forward, midships, aft or centre lead, sized to the bollard pull you choose
- Tug work: directed to any position around the ship, pushing or pulling at the power you set, then stopped
Pilots, tug masters and boat crews in one exercise.
Each participant joins from their own headset and takes their own station. The pilot on the bridge, the tug masters on their tugs, the pilot boat and line boats, all working the same manoeuvre in real time.
- Joint pilot and tug training, as used by German pilots and tug crews
- Pilot boats, line boats and support craft brought into the scenario
- Real communication between bridge, tugs and shore
Run it live. Replay it. Run it again.
The instructor builds the scenario and can step in live: change the wind, the current, the traffic or the visibility. Emergencies come at the press of a button: fail an engine, lose the steering, black out the ship or lose a tug. Reset in seconds, rehearse it again and again, then play the whole manoeuvre back to debrief what happened and why.
- Emergency scenarios at the press of a button, easily repeated
- VTS and traffic scenarios fully configurable and adjustable
- Wind, current, tide, day, night and restricted visibility
- Live instructor intervention, on site or remote
- Fast reset and full playback for debrief and review
- Harbour masters and senior pilots can run or review sessions
Accurate ports. Ships that handle like ships.
Port models are built from official charts, depth and terrain data, with live AIS traffic and tides. Vessels are built to their hydrostatic data and set up for loading condition, stability, propulsion and steering, and they interact with each other, the banks and the berth as they would for real. On the bridge you work a virtual ECDIS, ARPA radar and conning display.
- Vessel to vessel interaction when passing, overtaking and working alongside
- Vessel models matched to hydrostatic and sea-trial data
- Look over the side in real time to judge distance off and closing speed
- Ship handling all the way alongside, not stopping short of the berth
The mentor pilot stands beside the trainee.
Mentor and trainee share the same bridge, wherever each of them is. The mentor stands next to the trainee as they would in real life, watches every order, coaches in real time and can manually take over at any moment, without the risk of a real ship.
- Mentor stands beside the trainee or manually takes over the con
- Mentor and trainee on one bridge, in the same port or a world apart
- Coaching, challenge and handover practised as on a real transit
- Builds trips and experience before check voyages
One live scenario, wherever your people are.
Units link over a local network or the internet through the Morild cloud, with servers in several regions for low-latency sessions. Trainees, tug crews and instructors can each be in a different port, or a different country, and still work the same manoeuvre together.
- Each participant appears as an avatar, so the team sees each other on the bridge
- AI crew fill any roles when a full team is not available
- Instructors run, watch and adjust sessions remotely
- Cloud access is included with the Morild subscription
The detail that makes it real.
Every Morild unit comes with the full system, not a cut-down version.
Every port should invest in this technology.
For true in-house capability a port needs multiple stations, linked so the pilot, mentor, tug masters and harbour master all work the same live scenario. Turn down time into training time, prepare for the ship before she arrives, keep skills sharp between jobs and prove a new procedure before it is used for real.
Trusted by pilots, port authorities and the maritime industry.
Approved for pilot training in Germany and used by pilot organisations, port authorities, navies, shipowners, shipbuilders, classification and training centres across Europe, Asia, North America and Australia.
Kiel, Lübeck and Flensburg pilots (Lotsenbrüderschaft NOK II) train on digital twins of their district and led the German approval. The Hamburg Pilot Association is building an in-house simulator centre, the third major German pilot organisation to adopt Morild. Elbe pilots, NOK 1 pilots and the Kiel Canal helmsmen are also Morild clients.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration trains pilots and pilot cadets on Morild, including bridge resource management. Its published study recorded 52 pilots taking the VR course at two pilot stations.
Approved for pilot training by Germany's Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (GDWS) under the German pilot training rules. Hamburg Port Authority and the German armed forces are also Morild clients.
The Norwegian Training Center in Manila, run by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association, opened its Morild VR training facility, and Wilhelmsen's Wlearn Academy Philippines trains seafarers on Morild.
Boluda Towage Europe trains tug masters on Morild, including joint exercises with Lübeck pilots. Crowley uses it to assess tug captain candidates.
Rolls-Royce used it in its ship research lab. Wilhelmsen, Kongsberg, DNV, VARD, Ulstein and the Maritime Pilots Institute in the United States are clients, alongside universities including NTNU and UiT.

From ship research labs to pilot stations.
Morild Interaktiv has more than 15 years of simulator development behind it. Its VR simulator was taken up by Rolls-Royce for ship research, and has since been adopted by pilot organisations, navies and maritime academies around the world.
Morild reports that two independent university studies found it performs very favourably against advanced conventional simulators. Pilot trials by the Norwegian Coastal Administration found pilots valued its mobility, low cost and ease of use, and used it to learn local areas and prepare for large vessels and special operations.
